We are excited to announce that the Award Committee for the (MGADS) is now accepting nominations! Before you submit a nomination, please read the explanation of the process below.
Submission Deadline: June 30, 2023
Submit your nominee at: https://forms.gle/n3tDGSRJit3SpySc6
---===--- A Brief History of the Award ---===---
The award is named after Matthew Gillam, who has worked at the Japan Local Government Center (JLGC) office in New York for 25 Years. While not a JET himself, he has kindly shared his knowledge and years of experience with many Alumni to help keep their chapters running and thriving. It is no overstatement to say that JETAA Chapters would not exist as they do without his help and dedication. This award lets us celebrate the kindness and dedication we see all around us.
---===--- General Rules ---===---
Who is eligible?
Anyone who has helped and supported the JET Alumni community in the United States.
They do not need to have participated in the JET Program nor to have served as a Chapter’s Officer. They can be any nationality and located anywhere in the world.
Who cannot be nominated?
Current JETAA USA Country Representatives and Award Committee members cannot be nominated.
---===--- Other details ---===---
The nomination period will close on June 30th, 2023
Feel free to collaborate with someone to submit a nominee.
---===--- Criteria ---===---
Describe your nominee’s dedication to the US JET Alumni community in the categories outlined below. You will be limited to 1,500 characters for each section, which works out to just a little over half a page. Each area will be evaluated on a 1-5 scale. The Committee has intentionally not defined what qualifies as a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. “Biggest and Best” is not what the committee is trying to celebrate. The Committee also considers other factors like a small (sub)chapter or single alum/individual with few resources working hard to support JETAA activities alongside someone who has made large wide-reaching contributions across all 19 chapters. Dedicated service is scalable in a local or national context.
We encourage you to ask others for examples of your nominee’s accomplishments and impact to incorporate into your submission.
Each section is capped at 1500 words.
-=- How they care:
Does your candidate demonstrate concern for the well-being of others? This can include fellow alumni, departing and returning JETs, Chapter officers, partnering organizations, and people in general. What have they done that makes people feel valued?
-=- How they work:
How well has your candidate upheld their volunteer and/or professional responsibilities? In what ways do they communicate effectively and work as a team member? Have they taken on difficult and complex tasks? Have they worked hard at an acute problem and made the “heavy lift” to solve the issue, or are they steadily seeing to the daily needs of maintaining a Chapter, or a combination of both?
-=- How they support:
Does your candidate lift others up? Do they offer understanding and compassion, especially when things are challenging or not going well? Do they help others find the tools they need to succeed on their own without doing the work for them?
-=- How they lead:
Does your candidate help others succeed? Do they see the potential in what others can do and create opportunities for growth? Do they create an environment that empowers others to take on complex tasks?
